Prof. Lasar Georgiev Gruev
Born on March 29, 1956 in Sofia.
Graduation from the
Faculty of Law at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in 1981. Lecturer in
penal law at the same faculty since 1983.
Prosecutor at Sofia
Regional Prosecutor’s Office from 1986 to 1990.
Professor in penal law at
Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski since 2003. Member of the Consultative
Legislation Council to the 39th National Assembly and of the Legal Advisory
Board to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Appointed Constitutional
Court Justice from 2003 to 2007. Elected President of the Supreme Court of
Cassation on November 9, 2007 by the Supreme Judicial Council and appointed with
a Decree of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria as of November 12, 2007.
Specialization courses
completed at the universities of Hamburg, Saarbrücken, and Leipzig.
Elected member of the
Board of the Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the
European Union as of 19 March 2010
Holder of the Humboldt
Research Fellowship granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and Max
Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law Freiburg, Germany.
Author of 4 monographs, many articles and studies in the field of penal law.\

written German and Russian.
